Provisional Registration
Provisional Registration is suitable for:
- those who have graduated from an accredited Australian initial teacher education program or
- those with a teaching qualification that the Board considers equivalent or
- those with a teaching qualification and teaching experience that the Board considers sufficient to enable the person to hold registration as a teacher.
There are two subcategories of Provisional Registration:
- Provisional Registration (Graduate Teacher)
- Provisional Registration (Returning Teacher)
Provisional Registration (Graduate Teacher) is generally for those that have graduated from an Australian initial teacher education program within the past 5 years. Provisional Registration (Returning Teacher) is for all other graduates.
Students currently enrolled in an accredited initial teacher education program can apply for Provisional Registration in their last semester of study. Please refer to the Final Year Initial Teacher Education (ITE) Students page for information.
Please note that to be eligible for Provisional Registration, a person must generally have successfully completed 4 years of higher education study (full time or equivalent) at the Bachelor degree-level or higher.
All applicants for registration must also meet the fit and proper requirements.
How to apply for Provisional Registration:
You can complete the Application for Provisional Registration online via Teacher Login.
There is a registration fee associated with applications for registration. This fee is separate to the annual fee that all registered teachers are required to pay each year by 31 March in order to maintain their registration. Please refer to the Schedule of Fees for more information.
If you currently hold teacher registration in any other Australian State or Territory or New Zealand, you may be eligible to apply for registration with the TRBWA through Mutual Recognition. Further Information is available on the Mutual Recognition page.
